Microsimulation with Socsim

Brief Socsim documentation

Socsim Oversimplified

Demonstration Projects

Below are several "easy to assemble" SOCSIM projects. Each is fully self contained in that it includes everything necessary to run a simulation and to analyze an interesting aspect of the resulting population files. Actually, the projects include everything except a compiled version of SOCSIM and a working R installation. For those who have R but not SOCSIM, each project includes a set of simulation results so it is possible to explore and analyze results without compiling SOCSIM.

After downloading and and unpacking (each project is a compressed tar file) look for a .pdf file(e.g. CousinDiversity.pdf in the first project) in the top directory. That file motivates the project and describes the procedure.

These projects were developed for a workshop given at The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MP116) June 10-16, 2010

1. Endogamy and cousin diversity  |  download
2. Fertility decline and the marriage squeeze  |  download
3. Bayesian melding and rate calibration  |  download
4. Sandwich generation  |  download
Socsim has already been compiled and installed in the lab so there is no need to compile it yourself. For those who find such things enjoyable, however, here it is: Socsim source code  |  download.
